As cost-of-living pressures continue to bite, thousands of Adelaide residents gathered round for a simple household essential this week — free toothpaste.

The Australian Dental Foundation (ADFi) officially launched Brush for Good Month in May, kicking off the nationwide charity initiative with its third annual Brush for Good Day on Thursday, May 7.
Despite cold conditions, the event drew strong community support, with more than 6,000 tubes of toothpaste distributed throughout Adelaide in just a few hours.

For many passers-by, the giveaway was more than a free sample, it was welcome relief at a time when everyday essentials are becoming increasingly expensive.

ADFi Patron Jane Lomax-Smith and Deputy Premier Kyam Maher joined the morning launch, helping distribute supplies and speaking with locals about the growing importance of accessible healthcare and preventative oral health.

The Foundation says the initiative aims to ease pressure on households while also encouraging healthy oral hygiene habits, particularly as rising living costs force many Australians to delay or avoid dental care altogether.
Following the Adelaide launch, Brush for Good Month will continue with community pop-ups across the country, including events at Dandenong Market, Preston Market and Sunshine Marketplace in Victoria, as well as Revesby Village Centre in New South Wales.
Each event will provide free toothpaste to local communities, as the Foundation works to make basic dental care more accessible nationwide.
